In recent years, Loraine James has emerged as one of the most forward-thinking producers of the moment. Experimental never stands synonymous with inaccessibility within James' playful vocabulary: a dizzying mix of jazz, electronica, UK drill, pop and grime. With her album For You And I (2019), she seeks out the raw edges, transmitting her signature sound as a queer, Black and British artist, with the catchy pop melody often forming the springboard for bold experimentation.Successor Reflection is a more streamlined and minimalist project that shows the introspective and intimate side of club music. Building Something Beautiful For Me (2022), was James's tribute to the iconic New York minimal composer Julius Eastman, a musical reinterpretation and response to his legacy. In 2023, she released the LP Gentle Confrontation, which explores both her past and present. James says it’s the record she would have liked to have made as a teenager – the album’s musical tendencies reflecting that period in her life. In between albums, James delves into countless impulsive projects – such as her unruly alter ego Whatever The Weather – in which the sheer joy of her creative process is palpable.During Aural Spaces, James will apply her boundless creativity and expressive, almost diary-like approach within the 4DS Soundsystem, which will of course result in a singular musical experience. For this special occasion, she will perform a brand new musical project, commissioned for Aural Spaces.This concert is co-presented and commissioned by FIBER Festival and Concertvrienden, Entrée and 4DSOUND. Cæcilie Trier's roots lie in the bustling Copenhagen music scene where Iceage, Puce Mary and Andreas Führer also come from. Trier is a much sought-after session musician all over the world – she has worked with artists as diverse as Dean Blunt, Trentemøller and Marching Church. CTM is equally at home in the worlds of classical, film music, experimental pop and electronica. At times her music sounds intimate and familiar, but the unexpected twist and glitchy disruption are always lurking, which can suddenly change the level of tension. The combination of resonant melodies, pop sensibility and bleed-edge improvisation creates a poetic and open atmosphere.Trier's career is brimming with praise, especially for her album Suite For A Young Girl, which was nominated for the prestigious Nordic Music Prize in 2017. Followed by the critically acclaimed album Red dragon (Posh Isolation, 2018), the album Celeste by the duo Trier/Rosenbaum (Posh Isolation, 2021), the album Babygirl (Posh Isolation, 2022). He makes intriguing audiovisual installations and compositions, in which means such as photography, cyanotype and spatial audio technology move in harmony. His work is often inspired by Caribbean heritage and immigration, and explores themes of diaspora, displacement and survival. With respect for the original work, experiments are made with the material to bring the subtle as well as coarse dynamics of the piece to life in new dimensions. Different ways are explored to express the richness of the string instruments, even to the point of abstraction, where you end up in a world of sound rather than listening to music, until another melody appears on the horizon.The Alma Quartet is a renowned string ensemble of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra that brings together innovation and tradition in an exciting and unprecedented way. ‘They have a collective antenna for refined timbres’, according to de Volkskrant. Marijn & Julia is the joint project of Dutch sound artist Marijn Cinjee and English soprano Julia Sinclair. Marijn Cinjee’s work pursues immersive audiovisual experiences that both amaze and stimulate. He doesn’t try to impose what people should feel when encountering his work; the aim is to evoke emotions and sensations from within. His progressive mentality forms a special fusion with Sinclair’s awe-inspiring voice, grounded in centuries-old tradition. Julia Sinclair has sung in many professional church choirs, including St Magnus the Martyr, London Bridge and St Bride's, Fleet Street, and is a member of the Consort Choir at the Edinburgh Music Festival.This exciting fusion of history and the contemporary is also reflected in Aural Spaces, where Marijn & Julia perform the album project Wind takes Flight. A meeting of the 12th century singing of Hildegard von Bingen and modern electronics, performed with the dynamic 4DS sound. When it comes to percussion, DOMNIQ is one of the most widely appreciated and groundbreaking artists. Just a year after graduating, he won the Tromp International Percussion Competition, and in 2020 he was the first percussionist to win the Dutch Music Prize. DOMNIQ is constantly looking for fresh connections within his discipline – crossovers with club music, dance, and theater are no strangers to him. In addition to his virtuoso playing and infectious curiosity for different movements, Vleeshouwers is an expressive performer who can be very theatrical, and then very vulnerable and intimate.At Aural Spaces, he brings a Morning Sound Bath – titled Water Ripples – that embraces and triggers the space and its visitors. The sounds he creates are complemented by surreal images of nature – from delicate raindrops to the vastness of a dark cave. Visitors are immersed in the warm 4D sound world, where familiar phenomena are transformed into the extraordinary. Wonder and questions predominate here: 'What if raindrops rose instead of falling?
