With divine certainty, angels are musical. Throughout time, earthly interpretations of their music have varied, from gentle harp melodies to powerful brass fanfares. Heavenly hosts significantly influenced secular music's development. Had angelic music adopted human traits, earthly music would have been impoverished. B'Rock Orchestra and Vocal Consort, with Andreas Küppers and Lucile Richardot, explore these mysteries from the late Renaissance to the present.

This season the Philharmonic State Orchestra's Music and Science series celebrates its 10th anniversary. A reason to look forward! Into the future, to what science and music will have to say in 2025. As a new cooperation partner on the path of unlimited possibilities, we welcome “Science Slam”, who are experts in bringing the latest research findings to the stage in a short, concise and scientifically correct manner. In order to convey the issue in an understandable and entertaining way, all aids are permitted. In the three themed concerts this season, music and science will be experienced less as complementary opposites than as complementary fields of creativity. Nothing less than the future is being negotiated: the current scientific breakthroughs, which will explode on three evenings in specially tailored chamber music programs by the musicians of the Philharmonic State Orchestra.

Ronald Brautigam | Die Kölner Akademie | Michael Alexander Willens

Sun, Mar 30, 2025, 16:00
Ronald Brautigam (Pianoforte), Die Kölner Akademie (Ensemble), Michael Alexander Willens (Conductor)
When Ronald Brautigam plays the fortepiano, even familiar pieces sound excitingly new. His uncompromising playing has led to the re-evaluation of prominent composers. He performs classics like Mozart with passion, sometimes thundering the keys, sometimes coaxing a wealth of colors from the instrument. Since 2009, he's collaborated with the Kölner Akademie and Michael Alexander Willens, recording acclaimed complete sets of Mozart and Beethoven piano concertos. The Cologne-based orchestra also performs Louise Farrenc's 1st Symphony, a rare successful female composer of the 19th century.
