After his brilliant Elbphilharmonie debut in October 2022, Chinese star pianist Haiou Zhang, who has long since found a home in Germany, returns to the Recital Hall with a piano recital. On the programme: pure Liszt! Zhang covers a wide range of music, from the poetic Sermon to the Birds by St Francis of Assisi and the intimate »Sonetto 123 di Petrarca« to two highly virtuoso masterpieces and the large-scale Sonata in B minor. Surprisingly, Liszt’s only contribution to the piano sonata genre, with which he immediately created something fundamentally new – a work that is still one of the most famous and important in the entire piano literature.
