In this program, hr solo hornist Marc Gruber presents a full-blown concerto by the versatile British composer Ethel Smyth as well as metamorphic horn music by the Danish symphonist Vagn Holmboe. Composer, conductor, writer and a fellow campaigner for the suffragettes, Ethel Smyth's life was characterized by the struggle for artistic recognition. Her virtuoso double concerto shows great mastery, which Brahms also demonstrates in his trio.
