Hüma Utku
Elbphilharmonie, Kaistudio 1 (Hamburg)
Berlin-based Hüma Utku, born in Istanbul, combines field recordings, acoustic instruments and atmospheric electronics into a form of music beyond genre boundaries, imbued with gripping storytelling. This deals with human abysses between ambient and electronica, sometimes violently and, at others, sensitively – whereby Hüma Utku is also very well informed thanks to having studied psychology. As a result, she tries to create sounds using sophisticated electronic music, which shift into primordial archaic realms. And she is extremely successful at this: you could already experience Hüma Utku’s sets in Berlin’s Berghain, also in Berlin’s Radialsystem and at several festivals.
