Fin de Siècle
This a cappella choral concert pays homage to Clytus Gottwald, who transformed Fin de Siècle music, piano songs, instrumental works, and even entire symphony movements into resonant a cappella choral pieces. He combined Richard Strauss's instrumental voice treatment with vocal techniques from György Ligeti's "Lux aeterna". Starting with pieces by Ravel, Berg, and Mahler, he created a genre of over 100 transcriptions. Johannes Borowski contributed a song cycle based on Virginia Woolf's "The Waves" for the SWR Vokalensemble.
