Gastkonzert: Pierre Boulez 100

Wed, Jun 11, 2025, 20:00
SWR Vokalensemble, SWR Symphonieorchester, François-Xavier Roth (Conductor)
The Festspielhaus Baden-Baden celebrates Pierre Boulez's 100th birthday with several concerts, including two of his "younger" works alongside Bruckner's last symphony. Boulez admired Bruckner, frequently conducting his works. "Figures – Doubles – Prismes" showcases variations and doublings of musical figures, culminating in a re-examination of the earlier work. Boulez also sets E. E. Cummings's poems to music, creating a unique blend of text and sound.

Anna-Lena Elbert (Soprano), Holger Falk (Bariton), Christoph Sietzen (Drums), WDR Sinfonieorchester (Ensemble), Brad Lubman (Conductor), Michael Struck-Schloen (Presentation)
Johannes Maria Staud's drum concerto for Christoph Sietzen, portrait artist of the 2024/2025 season, captures the shimmer of reality. A highly virtuosic pleasure on sought-after and found instruments, from drums to flowerpots. The protagonists in Gordon Kampe's "Lyrical Symphony" are "delighted to devour": inhumanly heightened desire dominates the music. Nicolas A. Huber devotes himself to the perfection of the number 4.

Arabella Steinbacher (Violin), WDR Sinfonieorchester (Orchestra), Ryan Bancroft (Director)
Exceptionally talented violinist Arabella Steinbacher inspired Luxembourgish composer Georges Lentz to create an ethereal violin concerto. Its sound expands within the Philharmonie like starlight under the Australian Outback sky, Lentz's compositional setting. Olga Neuwirth's orchestral piece "Masaot" delves into memories and associations: music as both home and foreign land. Georges Aperghis' Etude No. 8 ignites a celebration of orchestral virtuosity.
