EXPERIENCING THE FUTURE THROUGH MUSIC The RSB and the Futurium will bring the House of Futures to life in a very special way at a concert. Musical contributions set a new scene for the exhibition and bring the exhibits to life in sound at a late hour.At night in the museum… Music can be heard at various locations in the exhibition and the Lab. As soloists or in small groups, the musicians perform pieces by various composers. There is no standard programme. Our visitors can let the music carry them through the museum. The Futurium is about the future, even about “futures”, as the spectacular new building in the centre of Berlin understands itself. The exhibition with living scenarios, a lab for trying things out and a forum for community dialogue offer space to present and discuss foreseeable, conceivable and desirable futures.

The string quartet “Vox terrae” by Enrico Palascino takes its title literally. The diverse voices of the earth and its inhabitants have their say. The composer describes his approach: “Our earth is first and foremost home to an incredible number of creatures. Together they form a complex system where life has become possible in the most diverse places on earth. The frozen landscapes at the South and North Poles, the force of the oceans, the huge human metropolises are all beauties of the earth in their own right. They are described in the first movement of the quartet. However, nature has different ‘rules of beauty’ than mankind: a leitmotif wanders through the various places and becomes a warning call from nature… The second movement is an attempt to establish a spiritual balance between the wishes of mankind and the needs of nature. The result is a prayer where different textures alternate or search together for an answer.” (Enrico Palascino)On-site organisation: 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Room 220 Buildings from OceaniaEnrico Palascino String quartet “Le voci della Terra” 1st movement: La Terra (The Earth)2.30 pm and 3.30 pm Room 317 Northern Silk Road2nd movement La Preghiera (The Prayer)Please leave jackets, coats and large bags at the cloakroom or in the lockers on the ground floor before entering the Ethnological Museum on the 2nd floor. On Pentecost Sunday, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin will swarm out into the countryside to make music in the open air in the Gardens of the World. The park not only offers a refuge for flora from all over the world, but is also a charming place to recharge your batteries musically on a personal walk between the continents. In addition to a work by Boris Filanovsky, which is literally composed for a passing audience, various ensembles of the orchestra, spread across the extensive grounds, create small musical oases, sometimes entertaining, sometimes contemplative or as if from another world. The concert is included in park admission.Boris Filanovsky „Arkhitekton Lambda“ At the “Gräserband” crossroads next to the “Promenade Aquatica” water gardens Approx. 2.00 – 2.35 pmAbout the piece: Arkhitekton is the general name for three-dimensional cubist abstractions developed by Kazimir Malevich. Malevich labelled them in Greek letters and regarded them as a three-dimensional version of the “movement of painterly masses and planes”.In a spatial composition, the listener is usually either at the intersection of sound streams or has to move from one isolated sound object to another. Here, however, the orchestra appears as a complex body of sound that cannot be heard in its entirety from a single point, so that the listener has to move around and gradually change the acoustic focus. The result can therefore hardly be described as a musical work; here we are dealing with a kind of analogy to the “movement of painterly masses and planes” that I have tried to unfold in time and sound.Paul Hindemith “Little Chamber Music for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn and Bassoon op 24 No.2” In the flower theatre Approx. 2.45 pm & 3.25 pm (15 min. each)Benjamin Britten „Metamorphosen nach Ovid“ In the Chinese garden by the stone boat Approx. 2.45 pm & 3.25 pm (15 min. each) Joseph Hadyn „Lerchen Quartett“ In the Renaissance garden Approx. 3.05 pm & 3.45 pm (20 min. each) Brass Quintet Meadow next to the Japanese Garden Approx. 3.05 pm & 3.45 pm (20 min. each)
