The conductor is recognised worldwide as an authority on this music, acclaimed for his affinity to Bruckner’s distinctive, darkly-glowing tonal language and its powerful climaxes. Herbert Blomstedt now addresses the composer’s last symphony, in which Bruckner bids a very personal farewell to the world. In the concert’s first half, Leif Ove Andsnes is the soloist in Mozart’s festive Piano Concerto No. 21.

Gustav Mahler's "Adagietto" is a symphonic evergreen. But you've never heard this melodramatic movement like this before! The Bolzano-based Mahler Academy Orchestra, conducted by Philipp von Steinaecker, performs Mahler's 5th Symphony on period instruments, as it may have sounded at its Cologne premiere in 1904. Prior to this, Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto will be performed with Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes, also in period sound.
