»Hélène takes us down different paths, and each of them can yield its own meaning. It’s like with a painter: he has an idea, and it produces a certain colour.« This is Giovanni Guzzo waxing lyrical about working together with French pianist Hélène Grimaud. In her hands notes are transformed into colours, sounds into impressionst paintings, for her gift of synesthesia gives her a very special access to music.

Hélène Grimaud loves the music of Johannes Brahms, especially his First Piano Concerto. It is one of her showpieces – in the almost 30 years of her impressive career, she has returned time and again to the magnificent score by the young Johannes Brahms. The complexity, the smouldering passion, the virtuosity and emotional depth of the work inspire new explorations time and again. For the exceptional French pianist, who has also made a name for herself as an author and animal rights activist, this is both a feel-good factor and a challenge. Together with the exquisite Camerata Salzburg, Grimaud will give us a transparent Brahms sound guaranteed, which promises a special intensity of interaction due to the performance without a conductor.
