Pianist Lukas Sternath is on the path to a brilliant career. He has performed in renowned concert halls such as Vienna's Musikverein, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, and Tonhalle in Zurich. Sternath was a member of the famous Vienna Boys' Choir and later trained at the Conservatory in Vienna, as well as studying under Igor Levit in Germany.Sternath eagerly tackles the hyper-virtuosic repertoire, including Franz Schubert's heroic and extremely challenging Wanderer Fantasy. Schubert himself couldn't play it well enough and is said to have remarked, "The devil can play this piece!" The French-Dutch violist Sào Soulez Larivière is trained at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin, where he now resides. He has received numerous awards for his brilliant playing and is also praised for his exciting programs. Since 2023, Sào Soulez Larivière has been teaching at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.Together with pianist Annika Treutler, Sào Soulez Larivière released his first album, Impressions, in 2021. Now they begin the concert with Robert Schumann's enchanting Märchenbilder (Fairy Tales) for viola and piano and conclude with Shostakovich's Sonata for Viola and Piano, his very last composition. Experience shows that those who are selected as Rising Stars also have internationally successful careers.The French Quatuor Agate took their name from Brahms's incredibly beautiful second string sextet, which he dedicated to one of his great loves, Agathe von Siebold (the other being Clara Schumann). The quartet has been awarded several prizes, including for the best performance of new music at the Banff International String Quartet Competition in Canada, and the audience prize at the Verbier Festival. Their recent debut album delves deeply into Brahms, featuring all three string quartets.On the program, they also include Joseph Haydn's quartet commonly known as "The Joke," referring to his first substitution of a minuet movement with a scherzo, Italian for a joke or jest. Welcome to a soup concert dedicated to the wonderful music country of Czechia. While most people are familiar with and enjoy Dvořák, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra's cellist Hanna Dahlkvist and guest pianist Darya Tchaikovsky show that there is so much more.First, we hear music by the extremely talented conductor and composer Vítezslava Kaprálová (1915–40). She passed away at the age of 25 from tuberculosis but managed to compose an impressive amount of music. She also wrote a series of excellent chamber music works, such as the explosive Deux ritournelles for cello and piano.Vítezslava Kaprálová studied with Bohuslav Martinu, and from him, we hear the brightly colored and rhythmically vibrant third cello sonata – one of his most beloved pieces. Martinu, in turn, studied with Josef Suk, who was Antonín Dvořák's favorite student at the Prague Conservatory. They also got to know each other personally, and Josef Suk later married Dvořák's daughter Otilie. Suk's music is characterized by a flowing melody and lyrical passion, as heard in his Ballad and Serenade, which at times recalls Brahms's late chamber music.***Menu: Broccoli soup with parmesan. Debussy’s Première rhapsodie, in turn, is a product made to a commission from the Paris Conservatoire: a school piece which exceeded expectations to such a degree that the composer was later happy to arrange in for the clarinet and orchestra. While doing so, he retained the characteristic fogged-up sound, thanks to which the solo instrument cannot be mistaken f other. The young virtuoso Carlos Ferreira finds satisfaction both in his work with the prestigious Orchestre National de France and in chamber music – in a duo with the pianist and composer Pedro Emanuel Pereira, who wrote the suite Duas Igrejas, ringing with the nostalgia of the Portuguese fado, especially for him. On their joint album, we can also find the neoclassical Sonatina by Joseph Horovitz. What else are they going to surprise us with? This we will learn from the concert...
