This spring’s Blue House Jazz series concludes with familiar faces for the Konserthuset audience: Dee Dee Bridgewater joins the Blue House Jazz Orchestra, led by Peter Asplund and Magnus Lindgren!It has been 20 years since the Konserthuset’s own big band was founded, and with this spring’s final concert, Asplund and Lindgren bid farewell as its artistic leaders, passing the baton to the next generation. This grand finale is a celebration at the highest level – not least since it features Dee Dee Bridgewater, the legendary vocalist and jazz diva who never fails to captivate her audience.Dee Dee Bridgewater’s life and career are marked by both strong integrity and artistic curiosity. A three-time Grammy Award winner, she has performed at Konserthuset three times before, most recently in 2016. This, however, will be her first appearance with the Blue House Jazz Orchestra.

Many are looking forward to this exciting encounter: John Beasley and Magnus Lindgren join forces with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in the Blue House Jazz series, with special guest Michael Mayo!American pianist John Beasley and multi-instrumentalist Magnus Lindgren have collaborated several times before, and this time it’s with unique arrangements for the symphony orchestra. Alexander Hanson conducts the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Among the pieces performed, we have Portraits: a newly composed suite in three movements, created in close collaboration between Lindgren and Beasley, and at the same time, an expression of their friendship.Grammy Award winning composer, arranger, and pianist John Beasley has performed with legends such as Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Dianne Reeves, Steely Dan, Christian McBride, Chaka Khan, and even one concert with James Brown. He has also worked on film scores, including James Bond movies Skyfall and Spectre. Since 2012, Beasley has been Music Director for the annual global gala International Jazz Day concerts, hosted by the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz.Magnus Lindgren, along with trumpeter and vocalist Peter Asplund, is the artistic director of the Konserthuset's Blue House Jazz Orchestra. Recently, he was Artist-in-Residence with the SWR Big Band for three years. He has collaborated with a large number of top artists, including Herbie Hancock, Gregory Porter, James Ingram, Bobby McFerrin, Ivan Lins, Till Brönner, and John Scofield.Special guest is the highly exciting vocal virtuoso Michael Mayo, who has had Herbie Hancock as a mentor, and who seamlessly moves across soul, jazz, R&B, and art music.

Singer, composer, and visual artist – the versatile Cécile McLorin Salvant has carved out her own niche that expands jazz beyond its conventional boundaries: in addition to jazz, she touches upon vaudeville, blues, folk, and baroque music.It's an original and irresistible mix where the common denominator is the theatrical and powerful storytelling through text and music. She has been awarded numerous prizes and won several Grammy Awards. Her latest album was Mélusine (2023), where the Florida-born artist predominantly sings in French. Another example of her creativity is Ogresse – a 90-minute song cycle with her own lyrics, which she first performed in 2018 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.Cécile McLorin Salvant has appeared at Konserthuset Stockholm several times since her debut in 2017. With her, she this time brings an experienced trio featuring pianist Sullivan Fortner, who also contributed to Salvant's Grammy-winning album The Window, bassist Yasushi Nakamura, known for his exquisite yet swinging bass playing, and on drums, Kyle Poole, who has made a splash on New York's jazz scene in recent years.In cooperation with Stockholm Jazz Festival.

In recent years, the Italian pianist (and vocalist) Francesca Tandoi has gained international recognition and performed with a host of jazz greats. Her flawless technique and rhythmic energy, in particular, have been highlighted, with talk of her being a successor to legends like Oscar Peterson and Monty Alexander. In other words, we're talking about explosive and life-affirming jazz, melodic and with a clear swing.Now, Francesca Tandoi visits Konserthuset Stockholm for the first time with her trio. In a trio format, she has recorded a series of acclaimed albums. Her trio this time, in addition to Tandoi, includes Matheus Nicolaiewsky on bass and Sander Smeets on drums.

Camille Thurman is a name to remember – if you haven’t already. She is widely acclaimed and richly awarded, with critics bending over backwards to capture the impact of her performances. As Downbeat Magazine wrote: “Imagine if Sarah Vaughan played saxophone like Dexter Gordon. That’s about the effect you get when vocalist and tenor saxophonist Camille Thurman takes the stage.”Born in New York in 1986, Camille Thurman is a saxophonist, vocalist, and composer. She made history as the first woman in 30 years to tour, record, and perform internationally as a full-time member of the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, which she was part of from 2018 to 2020.Equally impressive as a singer and saxophonist, Thurman’s artistry combines tradition and innovation in a captivating way. She made her recording debut in 2014 and has since released three additional albums under her own name, most recently Confluence, Vol. 1: Alhambra in 2024. She has also contributed to numerous other albums.Now making her debut at Konserthuset Stockholm, Thurman performs with the Darrell Green Quartet. Her latest album is a collaboration with Green and his quartet. Darrell Green, also from New York, is a highly sought-after drummer and bandleader who has toured with legends such as Pharoah Sanders and Dr. Lonnie Smith.

It goes without saying that The Concertgebouw and jazz & pop music make a perfect combination. The stages of both the Main Hall and the Recital Hall have borne witness to nearly the whole of jazz history. Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald have both performed here, as have Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong.
