It goes without saying that The Concertgebouw and jazz & pop music make a perfect combination. The stages of both the Main Hall and the Recital Hall have borne witness to nearly the whole of jazz history. Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald have both performed here, as have Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong. Famous pop stars and bands that have graced the stage of the Main Hall include Frank Zappa, the Doors and the Eagles, to name but a few. Legendary concerts, in the present as well as the past.

Emmet Cohen Trio

Seinen frischen Sound kreiert Emmet Cohen aus den Lehren, die er aus seiner Verehrung für die Pioniere des Jazz gezogen hat: Swing, Feeling und Demut vor der Tradition. Dabei verbindet der Pianist blendende Technik mit einer seltenen Gabe für Melodie und Pathos.Emmet Cohen konnte sich mit der populären Online-Show »Live from Emmet’s Place« einen Ruf als vielseitiger Jazzpianist erwerben. Diesem Kult-Nimbus auch im Konzert zu entsprechen, gelingt dem 35-Jährigen mühelos. Kaum hat man sich darauf eingestellt, eine ordentlich swingende Combo erwarten zu können, verblüfft uns Cohen mit deutlichen Verweisen auf den orchestralen Sound eines McCoy Tyner. Das Trio um den virtuos auftrumpfenden Pianisten scheint sich partout auf keinen Stil festlegen zu wollen.

Saison-Auftakt mit drei Trio-Ikonen. Ein früher Geniestreich des jungen Schostakowitsch begegnet einem musikalischen Glücksfall des späten Schubert und dem von Melancholie erfüllten »Trio élégiaque Nr. 1« von Rachmaninow. Schostakowitsch war gerade einmal 17, als er sein Klaviertrio komponierte, das aus seinen nachgelassenen Manuskripten erst 1983 veröffentlicht worden ist. Mit dem Klaviertrio von Schubert erlebt man eines seiner letzten und reifsten Werke, die nach Robert Schumann »wie eine zürnende Himmelserscheinung« über das damalige Musiktreiben hinweg gegangen ist. Intensiver und klangvoller kann eine Kammermusik-Reihe kaum beginnen.Konzertdauer: ca. 105 Minuten – inklusive Pause
