On May 7, the premiere of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony will mark its 200th anniversary. The Orchestre des Champs-Élysées and the Collegium Vocale Gent choir under Philippe Herreweghe will perform the work. Herreweghe places the symphony in a pacifist context alongside Hanns Eisler's "Gegen den Krieg."

Conductor René Jacobs leads a performance of this touching work, preceded by Haydn's "Salve Regina," a votive offering composed after recovering from illness.

Children and young people in Essen sing in choirs everywhere - kindergartens, schools, churches, theaters, and clubs. This choir day focuses on these children. Children's voices will fill the Essen Philharmonic Hall and surrounding areas, demonstrating their power. Following a warm-up, concerts, workshops, and participatory activities will occur. The day concludes with a grand concert featuring a surprise guest.
